Cardio9 Flashcards
EKG Torsades
What does the P wave represent?
Atrial Depolarization
What does the PR interval represent?
Conduction delay through AV node
*normally <200 msec
What does the QRS complex represent?
Ventricular depolarization
*normally <120 msec
What does the QT interval represent?
Mechanical contraction of the ventricles
What does the ST segment represent?
Ventricles depolarized; Isoelectric
What does a U wave represent?
Hypokalemia, Bradycardia
Atrial repolarization is masked by what?
QRS complex
Describe the speed of conduction through the electrical tissue of the heart.
Purkinje > Atria > Ventricles > AV node
Describe the conduction pathway.
SA node Atria AV node Common bundle Bundle branches Purkinje fibers Ventricles
What is the hearts inherent “pacemaker”?
SA node
*due to its slow phase of upstroke
The AV node has a 100 msec delay (atrioventricular delay) that allows for what?
Ventricular filling
What is the relative conduction of the intrinsic “pacemakers”?
SA > AV > bundle of His/Purkinje/Ventricles
What is torsades de pointes?
Ventricular tachycardia
Shifting sinusoidal waveforms on ECG
Can progress to Ventricular Fibrillation
What conditions predispose to torsades de pointes?
Anything that prolongs the QT interval
What is the treatment for torsades de pointes?
Magnesium sulfate
