cardio-therapeutic procedures-medical procedure Flashcards
Procedure to restore cardiac output and oxygenated air to lungs for person in cardiac arrest; combination of chest compression (to push blood out of heart) and artificial respiration (to blow air into lungs) is performed by one or two CPR- trained rescuers
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Procedure that converts serous irregular heartbeats, such as fibrillation, by giving electric shocks to heart using instrument called defibrillator
Defibrillation
During open-heart surgery, routing of blood to heart-lung machine so it can be oxygenated and pumped to rest of body
Extracorporeal circulation
Device implanted in heart that delivers electrical shock to restore normal heart rhythm; particularly useful for persons who experience ventricular fibrillation
Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator
Electrical device that substitutes for natural pacemaker of heart; controls beating of heart by series of rhythmic electrical impulses
Pacemaker implantation
Medical treatment for varicose veins; injection of solution (usually salt solution) directly into varicose vein; irritates lining of vessels, causing it to collapse and stick together
Sclerotherapy
Process in which drugs, such as streptokinase (SK) or tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), are injected into a blood vessel to dissolve clots and restore blood flow
Thrombolytic therapy
