Cardiac Transplant Guidelines Flashcards
Why are patients at increased fracture risk?
Prolonged corticosteroid use
Patient may present with decreased strength in which region? How may a patient tolerate exercise?
- Exercise Intolerance
- Decrease LE strength
How to determine exercise intensity?
Heart rate alone is not appropriate to determine exercise intensity.
- Combination of HR, BP, RPE, METs, Dyspnea Scale
Patients with heart transplant has what effect to HR?
Heart is denervated, patients tend to be tachycardic (even at rest)
How to modify exercise sessions to accommodate patients with heart transplant?
Longer periods of warm up and cool down
HR response during exercise?
Delayed elevation in HR, due to dependence on circulating catecholamines
Effects on MAX HR
Decreased MAX HR
Effects on HR recovery?
Slower decrease in HR values during recovery.
