Cardiac Tamponade Flashcards
What is Cardiac Tamponade
Pericardial effusion of water, air and exudate causing large volume of fluid impairing ventricle filling = Cardiac Tamponade
Diastolic filling decreases = Low CO = Emergency
What are the symptoms of Cardiac Tamponade
SOB Tachycardia Confusion Chest Pain Abdominal Pain
What are the signs of Cardiac tamponade
Beck’s Triad
Pulsus Paradoxilus
What is the Becks triad
Hypotension
Quiet S1 and S2
Raised JVP
What are the risk factors for Cardiac Tamponade
Malignancy
Pericarditis
Thoracic trauma
How would you Diagnose Cardiac Tamponade
ECG - Vaired QRS
CXR - Large heart
ECHO- Show any fluid (Diagnostic)
Pericardiocentesis - Fluid sampling to find the cause
What are the complications of Pericardiocentesis
Pneumothorax Myocardium damage Coronary damage Thrombus Cardiac Arrest Peritoneum damage
What is the first line management for Cardiac Tamponade
Pericardiocentesis
What is the first line management for patients with haemopericardium, malignancy and trauma (Think RISK FACTORS) In Cardiac Tamponade
Surgical drainage
What is Pulsus Paradoxilus
10+ Systolic BP on inspiration
How would you treat pericardial effusion
NSAIDS and Colchicine
