Bradycardia Flashcards
What is the definition of bradycardia
Heart rate <60 bpm
What can cause bradycardia
Sinus/AV nodal disease
BB/CCB
Electrolyte abnormalities
Hypothyroid
What are the features of bradycardia
Dizziness
Syncope
Tired
What is the initial management of bradycardia
DR ABCDE
ECG
Treat reversible causes
If haemodynamically unstable give IV Atropine
Why would you give IV atropine to a haemodynamically unstable bradycardic patient
Atropine blocks the vagus nerve activity on the heart
SAN firing increases = increase heart rate
What factors increase the risk of asystole in bradycardia
Mobitz II heart block Complete heart block Broad QRS Recent Asystole Ventricular pause>3 secs
What should you give to a a patient presenting with asystolic bradycardia
Atropine
If no response, give Isoprenaline/Adrenaline
What is the permanent treatment for bradycardia
Permanent pacemaker
What can you offer while awaiting a PERMANENT PACEMAKER
Transcutaneous pacing
