Where is the heart located?
In the mediastinum and rests above the diaphragm, laying mainly on its side
What is the arterial/systemic system?
Process of oxygenated blood being transported from the heart to the tissue of the body, where oxygen is given up and used to provide energy and nutrition
What is the venous/pulmonary system?
Returns deoxygenated blood to the heart and lungs via a network of veins and enables removal of harmful waste from the tissues
What are the two parts of the cardiac cycle?
Ventricular contraction (systole) and ventricular relaxation (diastole)
