Child-centredness
Children no longer considered to serve the needs of adults, families revolve around the children’s needs.
General changes in childhood:

Constant obsession with protecting children from risk and danger, may prevent children from developing a healthy sense of adventure

Children deprived of traditional childhood due to: emergence of technology, junk food and lack of love from parents.

Fathers wanted to spend quality time with children through activities such as going to the park, but felt pressure due to long work hours.

Interviews with 25 fathers: Majority wanted a more intimate relationship with their children than they had with their own fathers
+ Sevilla (2014) - Time budget diaries
Fathers spend 7 times as much time with children than they spent with their own fathers.

Conclusion

British men have changed a lot but continue to see themselves as the breadwinner.
Pester power
Ability of children to pressurise their parents into getting them what they want.
Relationships are not changing:
Age patriarchy, no fully adult rights

Anne Gray ( felt pressure due to long hours)
Hatter et al ( men see themselves as breadwinner)
Sevilla (mothers still spend more time with children)
