Intercultural diversity
Differences and diversity between entire societies, e.g. the norms and values within the UK are different to those in China for example.
Intracultural diversity
Differences and diversity within a particular society e.g. the sexuality of a person within the same culture.
Cultural hybridity
The merging of cultures
Subculture
A cultural group within a larger culture which differentiates itself from its originating culture, often being based on similar values of the larger culture.
High culture
A culture which is mainly subscribed to by the powerful and wealthy elite; upper class. It is an appreciation of the nations cultural heritage.
Popular culture
Mainly portrayed through popular magazines and many other media outlets. It is associated with shallow activities enjoyed by the masses.
Global culture
The idea of certain cultures losing their individuality due to the development of social and economic relationships globally.
Consumer culture
A form of capitalism in which the economy is focused on the selling of consumer goods and spending of the consumers money.
