Media plays important role in shaping knowledge and attitudes of young people about sexuality. Assumed in the media that 16+ are sexually active. Contraception presented as being the responsibility of women.

- Camp - over exaggerating, negative stereotypes
- Macho - over masculine
- Deviant - Seen to be morally wrong
- Gays in the news - discrimination against homosexuals

Homosexuals are underrepresented in the media but believes things are changing. Tolerance of sexual diversity is slowly growing in society.
Education and sexuality - STUDY - McCormack & Anderson (2010)
Researched both hetero and homosexual 16-18 year old males in a sixth form in the south of england.
Boys demonstrated pro-gay attitudes. Physical with each other and firm against homophobia.
But there is the presumption that people are straight.
