Q

What is the charge of an atom?

A

An atom has no charge becuase it has the same amount of electrons (-1 charge) and protons (+1 charge).

In an ion there is a charge because there won’t be the same amount of electrons and protons.

Q

What is the atomic number?

A

How many protons there are.

It is the smaller number and is the bottom number

THE PERIODIC TABLE IS ORGANISTED BY THE ATOMIC NUMBER

Q

What is an isotope?

A

A varient of an element with the same number of protons but with a different amount of nuetrons.

An isotope will have the same atomic number but a different mass number

Q

What is the relative atomic mass?

A

Since there are isotopes. The relative atomic mass is the avarage atomic mass of all types (isotopes) of the element.

Q

How do you calcuate relative formular mass (Ar) of a singular element? (Isotopes)

A

Relative atomic mass = (isotope abundance X Isotope mass number)+(reptate for all of the known isotopes) ÷ 100(%of all isotopes added together, should always be 100%)

Q

Why is it difficult to seperate a compound and not a mixture

A

Seperating a compound is usualy very difficult because you need another chemical reaction to seperate the chemical bonds that are holding the compound together

However

You don’t need to do a chemical reaction to seperate a mixture because there are no chemcial bonds to break.
