Q

What is sexual reproduction?

Involves the fusion of MALE AND FEMALE GAMETES. Because there are TWO parents, the offspring contains A MIXTURE OF THEIR PARENTS’ GENES.

Q

How do the cells replicate themselves in animals and humans?

A
  • The cell with the normal full sets of chromosomes
  • Each chromosome splits down the middle to form two identical sets of half chromosomes and a membrane forms around them
  • The DNA then replicates itself to form two identical cells with complete sets of chromosomes
  • This is how we grow and produce REPLACEMENT CELLS
