Q

Explain the process of decay…

A
  1. Plants take in elements from the soil that then get passed through the food chain.
  2. These get returned to the environment in waste products produced by the organisms, or when they die.
  3. These materials decay because they are broken down by microorganisms
  4. They are put back into the soil creating a constant cycle of decay

Q

Describe how a compost bin works…

A
  • People put their kitchen waste e.g. Food peelings in a compost bin.
  • The compost is decayed by microorganisms quickly as its warm and moist
  • It can then be used as fertiliser and recycles the nutrients back into the soil - giving you a lovely garden!
