A - Photosynthesis OLD Flashcards
1
Q
Photosynthesis definition
A
The process that produces ‘FOOD’ in green plants. The ‘FOOD’ it produces is glucose.
2
Q
Photosynthesis equation
A
Carbon dioxide + water ➡️ (sunlight and chlorophyll) glucose + oxygen
3
Q
Photosynthesis happens inside …
A
Chloroplast
4
Q
What does chlorophyll do?
A
- Absorbs sunlight
- Uses the sunlight to convert CARBON DIOXIDE (from the air) and WATER (from the soil) into GLUCOSE. OXYGEN is also produced as a by-product
5
Q
The rate of photosynthesis is affected by …
A
- Intensity of LIGHT
- Volume of CARBON DIOXIDE
- TEMPERATURE
6
Q
What are the three limiting factors of photosynthesis (stopping it from happening any faster)
A
- At NIGHT the LIGHT is the limiting factor.
- In WINTER - TEMPERATURE
- If it’s warm enough and bright enough, the amount of CARBON DIOXIDE is usually limiting.
7
Q
Does the rate of photosynthesis ever stop increasing?
A
Yes, there are limiting factors which need to be increased before the rate of photosynthesis can increase.
