- tense bullae
- trunk + proximal limbs
- Nikolsky sign -ve
- rare for mucosal involvement
- affects DEJ (pemphigoiD = Deeper)
Pemphigus vulgaris
- flaccid bullae
- head, scalp, axillae, groin
- common for mucosal involvement
- intra-epidermal (pemphiguS = Superficial)
How are bullous conditions diagnosed?
Skin biopsy with immunofluorescence
Who most commonly presents with bullous pemphigoid?
Elderly people (over 70s)
How are bullous conditions managed?
Systemic steroids (prednisolone) \+ topical treatment
What is Nikolsky sign?

Top layer of skin slips away from lower layers when slightly rubbed

What type of blistering disease is caused by an autoimmune reaction to desmosomes?
Pemphigus vulgaris
Paitent presents with blistering inside of mouth and other mucosal linings.
