Agony in the Garden
The mental, moral, and physical agony Jesus suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, after the Last Supper. He asked the Father to take away his suffering if possible, but the Father’s will be done.
Passion
The suffering of Christ leading up to his death
Suffering Servant
In fulfillment of Isaiah 53, Christ ,the Suffering Servant, suffered and died on the Cross to redeem the world.
Temptations in the Desert
After Jesus was baptized, Christ fasted and prayed for 40 days in the desert. Satan came and tempted him 3 times. Christ overcame the temptations.
Last Supper
The Passover meal Christ and his apostles celebrated before the arrest. Christ instituted the Sacraments of Holy Orders and Eucharist.
Resurrection
Jesus conquering death as he rose from the dead on Easter.
Transfiguration
The divine glory of Christ was manifested to Sts. Peter, James, and John on Mt. Tabor. Christ spoke with Elijah and Moses.
Kenosis
Greek for “emptying,” it refers to Christ having emptied himself by becoming and taking on human nature.
Last Supper
The Passover meal Christ and his Apostles celebrated before his death. Christ instituted the Sacraments of Eucharist and Holy Orders.
Ascension
Forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus entered his humanity into divine glory.
Descent of the Holy Spirit
Fifty days after Passover, the Apostles, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and other disciples were gathered in the Upper Room. Pentecost was a Jewish Feast. The Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and was given to the Church.
Stations of the Cross
The pious practice of meditating upon Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
