Brain Vasculature Flashcards
Which arteries supply ~80% of blood to brain?
Internal Carotid Arteries
What are the 2 main arteries to supply blood to the brain?
1) Vertebral
2) Internal Carotid
What are the 3 main components of the BBB?
1) Astrocytic end-feet
2) Basement Membrane
3) Capillary Endothelial Cells
What do the Vertebral arteries branch off?
How do they enter through the skull
Subclavian Arteries
Foramen Magnum
Where do the ICA branch off?
Where enter through skull?
Common Carotid -> Bifurcation as upper border of thyroid cartilage
(Carotid Foramina)
What do the Vertebral arteries supply?
Posterior cerebrum. Posterior Cranial Fossa contents
What do the ICA supply?
Anterior, middle parts of cerebrum and diencephalon
What do each of the cerebral arteries supply?
A: Medial aspect of Hemisphere and Corpus Callosum
M: Lateral Surface of the Hemispheres
P: Occipital Lobe
What do the 2 Vertebral arteries form?
Basilar Artery (Pontine and Labyrinthine arteries coming off it)
What do the cerebral veins drain into?
What does Great CV drain?
Dural Venous Sinuses
Deep brain structures
Where are the dural VS found?
In endosteal and meningeal layers of dura
Where is CSF produced? (More specifically including cell?)
Lateral ventricles
Choroid Plexus, ependymal Cells
