Brain lab (6a) Flashcards
what cells line the choroid plexus of a lateral ventricle and what type of epithelium is this?
Ependymal cells: Simple cuboidal epithelium with microvilli
how does the protein content in blood plasma differ from that in CSF?
protein concentration is also far lower in CSF than in plasma
what important structures does the Superior temporal gyrus contain?
auditory cortex and wernicke’s area
what passes through the foramen magnum?
vertebral artery, spinal cord, meninges
How can you assess the depth of consciousness using supraorbital nerve?
By applying pressure to the supraorbital nerve (is painful so reflex should occur)
what does the cerebral aqueduct do?
acts like a canal that passes through the midbrain and connects the third ventricle with the fourth ventricle
what is the corona radiata?
a white matter sheet that continues ventrally as the internal capsule and dorsally as the centrum semiovale.
what are arachnoid granulations?
projections of the arachnoid membrane (villi) into the dural sinuses that allow CSF to pass from the subarachnoid space into the venous system.
What goes through the foramen Spinosum?
the middle meningeal artery, middle meningeal vein, and the meningeal branch of the mandibular nerve
list the five sutures of the brain and now their locations
Metopic
Coronal
Sagittal
Lamboid
what does the middle meningeal artery supply and what does it branch from?
it is the 3rd branch of the maxillary artery
It supplies the dura mater and the calviaria (top part of skull)
