Brain and Vasculature - Hutch Flashcards
Be able to label the brain that is in OneNote.
Do it, jack. You need to score well on this next test.
The right common carotid comes off what?
Brachiocephalic a.

Sup part of brain on the frontal and parietal lobes
What does the post cerebral a. serve?
Inf. part of brain along the occipital and temporal lobes
What supplies the cerebellum?
Sup cerebellar a.
Ant inf cerebellar a. (AICA)

The dura mater in the cranium has 3 major parts. Name and describe them.
Falx cerebri- dives down the longitudinal fissure
Falx cerebelli - divides the cerebellum
Tentorium cerebelli - wraps around laterally
What does the middle meningeal a. serve?
Dura and calvaria
Name and describe the cranial meningeal draining sinuses.
Superior sagittal sinus - Along the sup part of longitudinal fissure
Inferior sagittal sinus - along inf part of longitudinal fissure
Transverse sinus - lateral and posterior (around the tentorium cerebri area)
Sigmoid sinus - S-shape that drains into IJV
What is the point where all three sinuses (minus the sigmoid sinus) come together?
Confluence of sinuses
Where is the cavernous sinus?
Net-like structure up by sella turcica
What runs thru the cavernous sinus?
ICA, CN III, IV, V, VI
Where can blood pool in the skull?
Cavernous sinus
Pterygoid plexus
What is a risk of popping a zit on the nose?
Bacteria can get into the systemic circulation via the angular a., or can enter the cavernous sinus via the angular vein
What drains blood from the scalp and bones of the calvaria?
Parietal and occipital emissary veins
What absorbs the CSF?
Arachnoid granulations (villi)
A torn middle meningeal a. leads to what type of hematoma?
Epidural. Very dangerous. Blood pushing onto the brain.
A torn bridging cerebral vein leads to what?
Subdural hematoma. B/t dura and subarachnoid mater. Dangerous, but not as bad as an epidural hematoma.
What happens when the aa. serving the brain rupture?
Subarachnoid aneurysm or subarachnoid hemorrhage
Two types of stroke. Name and describe them.
Hemorrhagic - hemorrhage onto brain tissue.
Ischemic - Clot stops blood supply to an area of the brain
What is CSF produced by?
Choroid plexus
