Q

what is the pathogenesis of whooping cough

A

inhalation of aerosols –> bacteria adhere to ciliated epithelial cells – toxin production + accumulation –> damage to mucous cell or act on neurons and then paroxysmal couch ensues

Q

What leads to the invasive ACase?

A

S1 catalyzes ADP ribosylation rxn of Gi –> activates host ACase –> inc cAMP

Bacterial invasive ACase directly activates conversion of ATP to cAMP***
