A

m/c seen in neural arch age 10-30

18
Q

osteochrondroma

A

m/c benign tumor of extremities. 2 types sessile or peduncle. coathanger’s exostosis. mushroom projection. multiple chodromas= hereditary multiple exostosis (HME)

19
Q

Osteoid osteoma

A

pain worse at night, relieved by aspirin. 15-25. radiolucent nidus w/ reactive sclerosis

20
Q

osteoma

A

m/c benign tumor of the skull, m/c in frontal sinus (frontal bone)

21
Q

osteopetrosis

A

“marble bone disease” AKA “albers schonbergs disease” radiology sign “bone within a bone” =early stages. Sandwich vertebra= late stage. Pts die by 20-30 from hepatosplenmegaly and anaemia

22
Q

osteosarcoma

A

most common 1` bone cancer in children (10-30). radiating, speculated, periostial response

23
Q

pagets AKA osteitis deformans

A

case hx: men over 50, increase hat size, cortical thickening
rad stages: 1 lytic phase, 2 mixed phase combined, 3 blastic phase, 4 malignant degeneration
lab increased alkaline phosphatase. Pathological cell is the osteoclastic cell

24
Q

scleroderma

A

AKA progressive systemic sclerosis. CREST signs: calcinosis curtis, raynaud’s phenomenon, esophogeal problems, sclerodactely, telangectasis= dilation of superficial blood vessels.
rad: resorption of distal tufts.

25
osteomyelitis
brodie's abscess if chronic. sequestrum. involucrum. cloaca. m/c/c= staph aureus
26
sequestrum
dead necrotic center. the sequestered dead stuff
27
involucrom
new bone formation
28
Cloaca
opening form bone to the skin. seen with brodie's abscess. this is opening in involucrum. can get marjolins ulcer which is a squamous cell carcinoma
29
acid phosphatase
elevated in prostatic cancer which has ruptured the prostate capsule
30
alkaline phosphatase
elevated in liver and bone conditions
31
brown atrophy
build up of lipofuscin in organs. Lipofuscin granules are old age pigments
32
calcium
#1 mineral deficiency in the US
33
iron
#1 mineral deficiency in the world
