Boldface Warnings Flashcards

1
Q

Engine shutdown warnings (2)

A
  1. Throttle ctrl failure: DO NOT attempt to move condition level. Could cause cable fouling.
  2. If fire or nacelle overheat exists, a break in bleed manifold could exist. Isolate the wing: close engine bleed air valve & wing isolation valve. If condition still exists, discharge remaining bottle.

Ground evacuation Warnings (3)

A
  1. If cargo ramp primary exit for pax; ensure open prior to shutting down engines/APU
  2. If main wheel well fire exists; evacuate immediate area by 300ft (600 w muitions on board). If extreme brake temps, do not approach. If necessary approach from fore/aft only.
  3. If main wheel well fire exists/hot brakes suspected, chock NLG only

Abort warning (1)

A
  1. If aborting for prop malfunction or other malfunction which may cause asymmetric power, causing directional control problems, shut down the affected engine while the throttle is in flight idle.

Q

Multi-engine rollback warnings (5)

A
  1. If corrective actions are not initiated promptly, flame out of all engines is possible.
  2. Use of APU gen is required to airstart the engines after a four engine failure. If No.2 crossfeed valve is not open prior to a 4 engine failure, APU start is impossible due to loss of LH DC power.
  3. If power loss condxns still persist after pulling synchrophaser CBs, remove the synchrophaser from its mount (eliminates inputs to the prop ctrl assy)
  4. These procedures should correct prop system malfunctions arising from fuel system, loss of RPM, EMI or bleed air problems that cause loss of engine power. Crew should check all other systems for normal op.
  5. A/C systems should be left in above config. If fuel/bleed systems need to be operated, extreme care shall be exercised to prevent the multi-engine case again. Consider starting APU to have backup pwr avlbl.

Q

Four engine failure warnings (2)

A
  1. Feathering all engines will remove Hydraulic assistance to the flight controls
  2. A/C systems should be left in the config achieved. If fuel/bleed systems need to be operated, extreme care shall be exercised to prevent the multi-engine case again.

Q

Throttle control failure warnings (3)

A
  1. Do not attempt to restrain a throttle that moves on its own - may cause prop to reverse or full power
  2. If binding or failure occurs in throttle ctrl system, the controls may go either full power or full reverse. Indication may be differing indications to throttle setting. In event, do not move the throttle & ESP
  3. Do not move condition lever or throttle of effected engine.

Smoke & fumes warnings (7)

A
  1. Flammable fumes present; electrical equip not rqd should be turned on/off
  2. If crew IDs issues with Oxy system (e.g. reduction in temp/flow/pressure), change flight environmental/regulator settings/remove crew onto bottles.
  3. > 5mins exposure to high concentrations of extinguisher agent should be avoided - use eye prtection/oxy.
  4. lithium batteries; extinguish with extinguisher then douse with water to cool & prevent thermal runaway. Item should be jettisoned or placed under watch for re-ignition.
  5. Pax on board but no oxy: descend to lower alt before depressurising the a/c
  6. Smoke in cargo compartment will travel fwd to the flight deck. Fwd escape hatch must be opened to effectively reduce smoke
  7. Loads to wear restraint harnesses when opening paratroop doors (or chute)

Q

Pressurisation failure warnings (2)

A
  1. Consider any structural damage before changing centre of lift with flaps (could cause more damage)
  2. Depress a/c and turn Aircon master to Aux Vent before attempting to lock/unlock any hatch/door.

A
  1. If a/c is still pressurised, Pilot to direct any pers on flt deck without seltbelts/oxy to remain until crew entrance door is confirmed safe.
  2. A/C is to be completely depressed before the eng checks doors/hatches. Chute/harness to be worn whilst checking.

Q

Elevator trim runaway warning: nose UP

A
  1. If failure results in uncontrollable nose UP condition. Fly the a/c;
  • Bank as necessary
  • Reduce airspeed
  • Extend flaps (as limits allow) to increase nose down.
  • Continue to reduce airspeed while decreasing bank to maintain ctrl.
