What is thorax?
The medical term for the chest is thorax.
What area does the thorax cover?
Thorax is the area of the body between the neck and abdomen.
Which systems and organs are in the thorax area?
The thorax contains many vital organs that are important for breathing, digestion, and blood circulation, including the heart, lungs, major blood vessels, esophagus, trachea, bronchi, and pleura.
What else supports the thorax?
The thorax is also supported by the ribs, breastbone, and spine, and separated from the abdomen by a thin muscle called the diaphragm.

The spleen is located in the upper left side of the abdomen, below the ribs and above the stomach.

What is its function?
It’s part of the lymphatic system (which is part of the immune system).
Stores blood.
Filters blood by removing cellular waste and getting rid of old or damaged blood cells.
Makes white blood cells and antibodies that help you fight infection.
Maintains the levels of fluid in your body.
Produces antibodies that protect you against infection.
