Blood Vessel Notes Flashcards
What is the tunica interna?
This layer is composed of Squamous endithilium. It is smooth to create low resistance to blood flow/prevent blood clots.
What is the tunica media?
This layer is composed of smooth muscle. Regulates BP(constricts to increase, dilates to decrease).
*Practice Blank
Single layer of endothelium.
Tunica Interna
What is the tunica externa?
This layer is composed of connective tissue. This protects the blood vessel and attaches it to surrounding tissue.
*Practice Blank
Bulky middle coat, contains smooth muscle.
Tunica Media
*Practice Blank
Provides a smooth surface to decrease resistance.
Tunica Interna
*Practice Blank
The only tunic of capillaries.
Tunica Interna
*Practice Blank
The tunic that plays an active role in BP regulation.
Tunica Media
*Practice Blank
Supportive/protective overcoat.
Tunica Externa
