Heart Notes Flashcards
What is the correct pathway of blood?
Superior/Inferior vena cava -> Right atrium -> Tricuspid valve -> Right ventricle -> Pulmonary valve -> Pulmonary trunk -> Pulmonary artery -> Lungs -> Pulmonary vein -> Left atrium -> Bicuspid valve -> Left ventricle -> Aortic valve -> aorta -> Arteries -> Arterioles -> Capillaries -> Tissue -> Capillaries -> Venule -> Veins
What is the function of the pericardium?
To protect the heart and anchor it to surrounding structures.
What is the function of the pulmonary arteries?
They carry blood to the lungs.
What are the functions of the pulmonary veins?
Carry oxygenated blood to the left side of the heart.
What is the function of the venae cavae?
They carry de-oxygenated blood to the heart.
What is the function of the aorta?
This carries oxygenated blood to the body.
What is the function of a heart valve(AV+Semi-lunar)?
They regulate blood to flow to help prevent back flow and maintain a pressure gradient.
