Blood Supply anc CSF Flashcards
Peripheral nervous system blood supply
artery accompanies nerve
- branches will pierce epineurium and supply the neuron
Branches of vertebral arteries to spinal cord
anterior spinal artery and posterior spinal artery
anterior spinal artery
supplies anterior 2/3 of spinal cord
- motor and sensory
posterior spinal artery
two arteries supply the posterior 1/3 of spinal cord
- sensory
Internal carotid artery branches to CNS
middle cerebral artery
anterior cerebral artery
anterior choroidal artery
middle cerebral artery
supplies lateral part of brain(between temporal and frontal lobes
- most common problem is occlusion
- striate arteries(branches) supply internal capsule and thalamus
anterior cerebral artery
supplied by internal carotid
- if blocked, lose motor and sensory to LE
- supplies medial part of hemispheres
anterior choroidal artery
supplied by internal carotid, from middle cerebral
- supplies choroid plexus and hippocampus(memory)
- requires steady glucose and oxygen
- very active during sleep
