Blood Chemistries Flashcards
Hemoconcentration
dehydration; water depletion; labs are high normal or high; BUN:Cr ratio is >20:1 - only valid if pt has normal renal fn and normal muscle mass
Hemodilution
overhydration; excessive water; labs are low normal or low
hyper-
high serum concentrations
hypo-
low serum concentrations
Corrected calcium(correcting total serum calcium)
=measured total[Ca] + (0.8x(LLN albumin-[pt albumin]); do this when low albumin/malnutrition
Anion Gap
=serum Na - (Cl + bicarbonate); ref range is 8-12mEq/L; >12mEq/L –> gap/metabolic acidosis
Creatinine Clearance/Cockroft-Gault formula
=Clcr= [(140-age in yrs)(LBW)]/72xCr *0.85 for women
LBW women
= 45kg +2.3kg/in over 5ft
LBW men
= 50kg +2.3kg/in over 5ft
DKA
Diabetic Ketoacidosis
