Bleeding Disorders Flashcards
What does DIC stand for?
disseminated intravascular coagulation
What are the 4 causes of DIC?
secondary disorder
1. platelet infusions
2. damaged vascular endothelium
3. blood pooling
4. infection
What is the patho of DIC?
- illness
- clotting (thromboplastin)
- blood pooling
- tissue necrosis
- consumption of clotting factors
- bleeding
OR - lysis of clots
- release of anticoagulants
What are the 2 risks of vitamin k deficiencies?
needed for coagulation factor synthesis
involved with normal intestinal flora
Which hypocoagulation disorder has the least bleeding?
Hemophilia C
Which hypocoagulation disorder has the most bleeding?
Von Willebrand Disease
What are the 6 manifestations of hemophilia A and B?
- minimal bleeding into joints and soft tissues
- edema
- pain
- joint damage
- ecchymosis
- hematuria
How would you describe someone’s lifestyle with Von Willebrand Disease?
restrictive
What are the 7 manifestations of DIC?
- acrocyanosis
- confusion and stroke
- renal failure
- increased HR, decreased BP
- abdominal cramping
- ecchymosis
- hypovolemic state
What is acrocyanosis?
blueish tinge implying necrosis
What is the patho of antiphospholipid syndrome?
antibodies produced against proteins that bind phospholipids = free flowing in blood
What are 3 complications of antiphospholipid syndrome?
- venous thrombosis
- embolism
- preeclampsia (pregnancy complications)
What does ITP stand for?
Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura
What is the patho of ITP?
autoimmune disease
- autoantibodies bind to platelets and removed by spleen
What does HIT stand for?
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
