What is a body system?
A group of tissues and organs working together to complete a task.
The nervous system splits into two sections. What are they called?
Central (spinal cord + brain) and peripheral (cranial + spinal)
What is the function of the pituitary gland?
Controls all other endocrine glands; influences growth; metabolism; regeneration.
What is the function of the parathyroid gland?
Secretes the hormones necessary for Ca2+ absorption.
What is the function of the thyroid glands?
Regulate energy and metabolism.
What is the function of the pancreas?
Aids in the digestion of protein, fats and carbohydrates and produces insulin.
What is the function of the thymus?
Helps build resistance to disease.
What is the function of the hypothalamus?
Regulates hunger, thirst, sleep, wakefulness and body temperature.
What is the function of the adrenal glands?
Secretes many compounds eg. Adrenaline and cortisone. Regulates metabolic processes, water balance, BP etc.
