Biology Vocab 3 Flashcards
Electron Transport Chain
a series of 4 protein complexes that couple redox reactions, transfers electrons from their donors to their accpetors
Alcoholic Fermentation
glycolosis followed by the reduction of pyruvate to ethyl alcohol, regenerating NAD+ and releasing CO2
Lactic Acid Fermentation
glycolysis followed by the reduction of pyruvate to lactate, regeneration NAD+
Mitochondrian
an organelle in eukaryotic cells where cellular respiration occurs. Enclosed by two membranes, it is where most of the cell’s ATP is made
Aerobic
a process that requires the presence of Oxygen or air as opposed to anaerobic process that doesn’t require it
Anaerobic
a process that doesn’t require the presence of Oxygen or air
Glycolysis
a series of reactions that ultimately splits glucose into two molecules of pyruvate; the first stage of cellular Respiration in all organisms; occurs in the cytoplasm
Krebs Cycle
a chain of reactions occurring in the mitochondria. through which almost all living cells produce energy in aerobic respiration
