Biology Bioenergetics May 2018 Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction that occurs in the green chloroplasts of plants.
Is photosynthesis endothermic or exothermic?
Endothermic
What happens in photosynthesis?
The sun converts carbon dioxide and water to form glucose and oxygen by using light from the sun
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen
What is the symbol equation for photosynthesis?
(6)CO2 + (6)H2O –> C6H12O6 + (6)O2
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis?
Low temperatures, shortage of carbon-dioxide shortage of light and shortage of chlorophyll
What are the two types of respiration?
Aerobic and Anaerobic
What is aerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration is a chemical reaction that occurs in the mitochondria of cells
Is aerobic respiration endothermic or exothermic?
Exothermic
What happens in aerobic respiration?
It releases energy stored in cells to allow cells to complete the other 6 life processes of movement, reproduction, sensitivity, nutrition, excretion & growth
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water
What is the symbol equation for aerobic respiration?
C6H12O6 + (6)O2 —> (6)CO2 + (6)H2O
What is anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic respiration is a chemical reaction that occurs in the mitochondria of cells in the absence of oxygen
What is the word equation fro anaerobic respiriation?
Glucose –> Lactic acid
What is the symbol equation for anaerobic respiration?
C6H12O6 –> (2)C3H6O3
