what can you do to skin tags?
remove them electively
what is a cherry angioma?
overgrowth of endothelial cells that leads to a cherry colored mole on the skin
where are most cherry angiomas found
on the trunk
what age gets cherry angiomas?
thirties
what is a dermatofibroma? what is it made of?
benigh spindle cell dermal proliferation..looks like scar tissue
what does dermatofibroma often have surrounding it?
darker tissue
where are dermatofibromas common?
on the legs
what are dermatofibroma often associated with?
minor trauma
how do dermatofibromas feel?
firm scar like texture
what is the dimple sign? what is it associated with?
when you squeeze a dermatofibroma it dimples down due to scar tissue
what are random brown spots called on sun exposed skin?
solar lentigines
are solar lentigines precancer?
no…but they do signal a lot of UV exposure so person more at risk for cancer
describe the appearance of sebaceous hyperplasia
skin colored slightly yellow umbilicated papules
where are sebaceous hyperplasia common?

what is a keloid?
overgrowth of scar tissue beyond original scar site
what pop commonly gets keloids?
AAs
name two common locations for keloids
earlobes and upper trunk
what are two symptoms of keloids?
itchy and tender
what is first line therapy for keloid? what should you never do?
steroid injection…never cut because will come back
what causes an epidermal inclusion cyst?
hair follicles that collect debris within a sac
what do epidermal inclusion cysts look like?
mobile subcutaneous nodule with overlying punctum
what does an epidermal inclusion cyst discharge?
white foul smelling cheesy stuff
how do you treat an epidermal inclusion cyst?
only way to rid is complete removal
what is a milia?
tiny epidermoid cyst
where do milia occur?
face
how do milia appear?
small white bump
what can you do for milia?
easily extract it
what is a pilar cyst?
subcutaneous nodule lacking punctum
where do pilar cysts usually occur?
on the scalp
do pilar cysts discharge anything?
nothing
what is the elective treatment for pilar cysts?
excision by surgery
what is a lipoma?
fat collection under the skin
what can you do to a lipoma?
remove but totally optional
where do lipomas usually occur?
trunk and proximal extremities
how does a lipoma feel?
soft subcutaneous nodule lacking any skin changes
