Augustinerbrau Munchen Edelstoff- 5.6% alc./vol.
The style of this beer is called: Munich Helles Lager. When the golden and clean lagers that the Czech were brewing became all the rage in the mid 1800’s, Muncheon brewers feared Germans would start drinking the Czech beer vs. their own. This style was their answer to meet the demand. A bit more malty, but they often share the same spicy hop character of the Czech Pils. “Helles” is the German word for “bright”. This beer is a great representation of the style. Pours out a pale yellow with a modest white head, which dissipates fairly quickly. Very light on the nose, hints of summer fruit. On the palate it holds a nice, firm maltiness. Extraordinarily refreshing.
Georg Scheinder’s Weisen Edel-Weisse - 6.2% alc./vol.
This is another great beer from the people who brought you Schneider Weisse. This beer also falls into the category of here weisse. In Germany, the term “Weissen” means meadow, and it is a slang term for Octoberfest. Many years ago, the beer brewed for Octoberfest was not necessarily the standard Marzen (dark, rich and toasty) style lager beers associated with the event today. There were many styles brewed for there, always richer and stronger because of the weather. By law, German brewers must have their production facility in Munich in order to participate in Octoberfest. In 1942, Schneider’s Munich brewery was destroyed in the war. Thus, the brewing of this magical beer completely ceased. Fortunately, in the last couple of years, they have chosen to re-create the style for the american market. Pours out similar to the schneider weisse but lighter, more rust and gold rather than brown. On the nose, very wheaty and bread with some banana. they also use some cascade hops, in addition to the standard German Hallertau, which gives it a bigger hoppiness on the nose and palate. Flavors on the palate include banana, peach and citric with soft bread and hops in the finish.
Blue Point Hoptical Illusion (Indian Pale Ale) Long Island, USA
This classic american style ipa features a rare hop exclusively grown on a farm in oregon. a generous amount of the select hop balances out malty backbone of this delicious golden beer.
The nose of the beer is fresh and citrusy with floral hop aromas that dominate. The taste is similar to the smell. The initial taste has some malty sweetness that is quickly beaten back by the citrusy hops. As the beer finishes, the taste of the hops seems somewhat piney to me. The carbonation helps give the beer a good bite.
Corsendonk Abbey Pale Ale - 7.5% alc
Belgian Pale Ales were initially brewed to compete with Pilsners in the WWII time frame. They differ from other regional Pale Ales, by traditionally being less bitter. They also, typically, use aged hops for a more delicate hop finish. this particular one is a “Tripel”. The term comes from a part of the brewing process, in which brewers use up to 3 times the amount of malt than in a standard beer. This beer is a perfect representation of a “Tripel”. Golden, hazy in color with very high carbonation, carrying a big head. Spicy nose with sweet and citrus notes on palate. Soft spicy hops. As with the most Tripels, the high alcohol level is completely hidden in this beer. Served in a wine glass
Saison Dupont (Belgium)
A hazy golden straw color with a huge white head. The Saison has aromas of malt, bread yeast, banana, pear, apricot, clove, spice, and herbal hops. The taste follows the nose. Crisp clean carbonation finishing slightly sweet fruit, malt, grapes and bready yeast
Guiness Extra Stout
Guinness has been brewed in Dublin since 1759. The roasted barley gives the brew its starch and sugar and guiness its dark ruby color. Aromas and tastes of Espresso, malt, chocolate and molasses.
Strong tasting with a distinctive roasted bitterness, Guinness Extra Stout is an authentic carbonated classic. It’ll transport you back to an 18th century world of stouts when the ancestor of this beer was known as Guinness East and West India porter. In 1821, the definitive early Guinness became known as Extra Superior Porte
Chimay Red Trappist Ale - 7% - (dubbel) Notre-Dame de Scourmont, Belgium
Dark brown color with a dark tan head. Strong aromas of apricot, caramel, roasted malt, licorice, vanilla and fruit. It has a sweet, rich mouth feel with good carbonation and a slightly bitter aftertaste. The yeast and water are unique to this unfiltered, unpasteurized Abbey beer from Notre-Dame de Scourmont in Belgium
Einbecker Non-Alcoholic
