BCAA Mock Checkride Flashcards
Currency v Proficiency
Currency are the FAA minimum requirements
Proficiency is the skill or ability to perform the task
If my Private Pilot cert says I can fly SEL, what can I fly
you can fly 172, Piper Archer, Beechcraft, anything thats SEL but then it goes into proficiency. From a proficiency standpoint, it´ll be different.
What does it mean when there´s yellow shading on a sectional chart
High population area
It is bright at night
What are special use airspace?
TTMCPRAWN T - TFR T - TRSA M - MOA C - Controlled firing (not on map) P - Prohibited R - Restricted A - Alert Area W - Warning area/Wildlife/Marine Sanctuary N - NSA
When flight planning what airspace do we avoid?
- Restricted
- Bravo airspace
How many types of hypoxia are there?
Hypoxic - “altitude hypoxia” lack of oxygen absorbed by the body due atmospheric conditions
Hypemic - blood is not able to carry a sufficient amount of oxygen to the body’s cells. anemia, co2 poisoning
Stagnant - Oxygen deficiency in the body due to poor circulation of the blood. Caused by high G forces
Hystotoxic - Inability for the body to use oxygen due to alcohol or poisoning
How do I know what meds I can take?
- FAA.gov
- call AME
How dense is cold/warm air
Cold - more dense
Warm - less dense
What are the following: Pressure altitude Density altitude Absolute altitude Indicated altitude True altitude
Pressure altitude - altitude displayed when setting altimeter to 29.92
Density altitude - pressure altitude corrected for nonstandard temp
Absolute altitude - altitude above AGL
Indicated altitude - altitude shown on my altimeter
True altitude - height above MSL
What is the absolute ceiling for the C172?
14,400’
Define service ceiling and whats the c172’s service ceiling?
The maximum height at which an aircraft can sustain a specified rate of climb dependent on engine type.
50 fpm 12,000’-12,500’
Formula for pressure altitude
pressure altitude = (standard pressure - your current pressure setting) x 1,000 + field elevation
First class medical use and period its valid for
For pilots who exercise ATP privileges
Under 40 y/o valid for 12 calendar months
Over 40 y/o valid for 6 calendar months
Second class medical use and how long its valid for?
A Second class is required for pilots who fly commercially
Valid for 12 calendar months
What is a 3rd class medical for and how long does it last?
A Third class medical certificate is appropriate for student pilots, recreational pilots, and private pilots
Valid for 60 months if under 40 y/o
Valid for 24 months if over 40 y/o
Basicmed?
Allows you to fly with just a driver’s license and a physical exam by any doctor.
What’s basic empty weight?
Basic empty weight includes the airframe, engine, fixed equipment, unusable fuel, full oil and other items necessary for all flights. The basic empty weight does not include pilot, payload (passengers and freigh), or ballast (for balance) or usable fuel.
What if i find something not working during my preflight?
Ask:
Do I have an MEL? If so you must operate under all applicable conditions and limitations
NO MEL?
- Verify equipment is not required
- Discard or Deactivate
- PIC decision go/no go
How do i verify equipment is not required if not under MEL?
- TCSD - Type Certificate Data Sheet
- KOEL - Kinds of equipment Lists
- Required Day/Night VFR equipment
- AD’s
How do I discard/deactivate equipment?
- Discard, placard inop and log the required maintenance according to FAR’s
- Deactivate the item, placard according to FAR’s and log the maintenance
If clock is broken, can I fly?
It is airworthy but 91.213 says I should
1) Remove (but students cant)
2) Disable/placard inop
So you have to label inop then you can fly
If nav lights break during a flight, do we need for night flight? Were in Blithe and no one can help
Part 43 replacing a bulb is part of preventative maintenance. As long as you don’t change weight and balance, its considered preventative.
Logbook entry in maintenance log w/ pilot cert
How do we get current airport conditions?
METAR - refreshed at 55 mins past the hour
ATIS - recorded info with non-control info
AWOS - Updates every minute
3 stages of thunderstorm?
Cumulus
Mature
Dissipating
3 requirements for a thunderstorm?
Lifting Force
Updraft
Moisture
How far does the FAA require us to stay from a Tstorm?
20 nautical miles from anvil
What type of Ice is cessna certified for?
None
What kinds of Ice are there?
Rime
Clear
Mixed
The sky is clear and it is freezing at the surface, can I go fly?
Yes
I’m going west bound and there’s a mountain at 8,600 feet, what altitude can I climb to to clear the obstacle by 1,000 feet?
I do not have to go with even thousands and add 500 because I can fly VFR anywhere from surface -3000 feet without meeting the altitude restrictions. The mountain is ground level and I can therefore climb to 9,600 to clear it
What is considered night time and what is it used for by the FAA
1) Sunset to Sunrise - navigation lights are required
2) Civil Twilight - logging night flight
3) 1 Hour after sunset 1 hour before sunrise - Recent flight experience
Symptoms of hypoxia
Light headed
Fatigue
Euphoria
Cyanosis
What is hyperventilation?
Lack of carbon dioxide
Privileges and limitations of private pilot?
-cant fly for hire
- must pay pro rata expenses
- can fly for charity and get reimbursed for fuel
-
What documents are required onboard the aircraft?
ARROWED A - airworthiness R - Registration R- Radio license O- Operating handbook W- Weight and Balance E - External Data Plate D - Deviation card
