basic assumptions of cognitive approach Flashcards
mental processes
The cognitive approach argues that internal mental processes such as memory and language affect behaviour. Internal mental processes are private operations that mediate between stimulus and response.
This approach believes that mental processes should be studied scientifically and suggests that all behaviour is preceded by a thought.
As these mental processes cannot be observed, they are studied indirectly, by making inferences about what is going on in people’s minds based on their observable behaviour.
research development
Early research centred on human experimentation, then moved on to computer model analogies and now makes use of advances in cognitive neuroscience, using the latest brain scanning technologies.
