Back muscles Flashcards
what do extrinsic groups do
upper limb movement and respiration
what do intrinsic groups do
maintain posture, control movement of vertebral columns
where are the flexion muscles and what are they associated with
anterior to the spine (abdominals). associated with anterior flexion, lateral flexion and rotation of the trunk
where are the extension muscles
posterior to spine
where are the rotation muscles
muscles with oblique fibres on sides
where are the lateral flexion muscles
back and sides
erector spinae
intrinsic muscle of the back. associated with extension of vertebral column, lateral flexion of vertebral column
what happens with age in vertebrae
dehydration of intervertebral discs which leads to reduced shock absorption, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis (compression fractures cause curvature of spine), weakness of back muscle
