B6 Flashcards
How are Vaccinations made?
Vaccinations are made from dead or inactive forms of a decease-causing microorganisms.
Why are vaccinations made?
Vaccines are made to stimulate your bodies natural immune response to invading pathogens.
How Vaccinations work?
Small amounts of inactive or dead pathogens are injected into your body
The antigens in the vaccine stimulate your white blood cells into making antibodies
You are now immune to future infections by the pathogens because you memory cells will store the antibodies and release them when the pathogen is detected
What is herd immunity?
Herd immunity is where there are enough people who are immune to the disease, which enables people who are not able to have a vaccination or people who will be at a high risk, when exposed to the pathogen to be safe. This is because, everyone around then will be immune to the pathogen and won’t bring it to you.
What are antibodies?
Antibodies are a boost for the body to help fight communicable diseases however, they can only be used for bacterial pathogens.
Toxicity (drug development)
Will the drug harm any human organisms
Efficacy
Do the drug actually do what they are supposed to do to human and mammal organisms
Dose
The maximum amount that a human can have where the efficacy is at it’s peak and has no toxicity.
