B4: Human Biology- Breathing Flashcards
1
Q
Aerobic respiration equation
A
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O (and energy)
2
Q
3 stages of breathing out
A
- The volume of the chest gets smaller as air goes out.
- Decreased volume = Increased pressure
- Pressurised air form the chest is forced into the less pressurised atmospheric air
3
Q
3 stages of breathing in
A
- Ribs move up and out, diaphragms flattens, volume of chest increases as air comes in
- Increased volume = Lower pressure
- Atmospheric air at higher pressure than the chest cavity gets drawn in.
4
Q
3 main uses of energy from respiration
A
> Movement
Building new molecules
Heat generation
5
Q
Anaerobic respiration equation
A
C6H12O6 -> 2C3H6O2 (and energy)
6
Q
Anaerobic respiration equation (in other organisms)
A
C6H12O6 -> 2C2H5OH + 2CO2
7
Q
Glycogen
A
A storage carbohydrate found in the muscles, liver and brain
