B2.2 Organelles and Compartmentalisation Flashcards
1
Q
What are organelles?
A
Specialized structures within a cell that carry out specific functions.
2
Q
Where are organelles found?
A
In eukaryotic cells.
3
Q
Why is compartmentalisation important?
A
-Simultaneous: allows reactions to happen simultaneously
-Efficiency: increases efficiency of cellular processes
-Alienation: Keeps harmful reactions e.g digestion in lysosomes separate from the rest of the cell
4
Q
What is compartmentalisation?
A
The division of the cell into different organelles, each with a specific function.
