B1.6 The Eye Flashcards
Describe binocular vision
- both eyes facing forward
- both eyes focused on same thing
- allows to focus well and to judge distance correctly
- predators
- not a wide field of wiew
Describe monocular vision?
- animals with an eye of each side of the head
- much wider field of view
- can see all around and see predatora
- cannot judge distance very well
How do we judge distance?
Your brain compares the image from each eye. If images are very similar, the brain knows you are lookign at something from a distance
What is accomodation?
Lens change shape, according to focus om near or distant objects
Ring of ciliary muscle, accomodation for close and distant view?
Close- contracted
Distance- relaxed
Suspensory ligaments- accomodation for close and distant view?
Close- slacken
Distant- become taut
Lens- accomodation for close and distant view?
Close- rounded, fat shape
Distant- fatter, thinner shape
Explain long-sighted vision
Can see things in distance clearly, but not near
- eyeball too short
- cannot see near object because the light rays to not meet on the retina so image is blurred
Corrected long sight vision?
Converging lens bends light rays inwards before they enter the eye.
The light rays now meet on the retina so image is in focus
Explain short- sight
Can see close things clearly, but not things far away
Distant object reflect light rays and the light rays meet in front of the retina so image is blurred
Corrected short sight?
Diverging lens bends the light rays outwards before they enter the eye
The light rays now meet on the retina so final image in focus
