way of storing energy
Explain type 1 diabetes
Cause- the persons own immune system has destroyed the cells in the pancreas that makes insulin.
Method of control- controlled with insulin injections at meals. Patients should eat a balanced diet and take exercise
Explain type 2 diabetes
Cause- occurs later in life. It may be linked with being overweight. This person’s cells do not respond insulin and their pancreas may also not make enough insulin
Methof of control- eating a balanced diet with more fibre, less sugar. Also take medicines to make pancreas make more insulin. Sometimes need insulin injections
How else can diabetes sufferes control their symptoms?
By exercising- excess glcuose in the body is converted to energy during exercise
Amount of insulin a person needs to inject depends on how much sugar they eat + how active they are
