B1.4.1 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
How do plants get carbon dioxide for photosynthesis?
The CO2 diffuses from the air into the plant through the stomata
How do plants get water for photosynthesis?
This enters the roots from the soil through the root hair cells by osmosis
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen
Where does photosynthesis occur?
Photosynthesis takes place inside the plant’s chloroplasts
What are the 2 stages of photosynthesis?
Stage 1 - Energy transferred from light splits water molecules into oxygen gas and hydrogen ions
Stage 2 - carbon dioxide gas combines with the hydrogen ions to make glucose
What type of reaction is photosynthesis?
It is an endothermic reaction
What happens to the glucose produced in photosynthesis?
It can be stored as sucrose in fruit
It can stored as starch
It can be used for cellulose to form cell walls
It can be mixed with nitrogen as proteins for growth and repair
It can be made into fats and oils which can be used for food store and growth
