What does a light microscope do?
It allows you to see observe small structures in detail
What is the equation for magnification?
eyepiece lens magnification x objective lens magnification = total magnification
What can methylene blue be used for?
It can be used to stain animal cells in order to see the nucleus of it
What can iodine be used for?
It can be used to stain plants cells to see the plant nuclei
What crystal violet be used for?
It stains the bacterial walls making it easier to see
What does the stage do?
It supports the slide
What do the focusing knobs do?
It can move the stage up and down to bring the image into focus
What does the clip do?
It holds the slide in place
What does the objective lens do?
It magnifies the image
What do the eyepiece lens do?
It is looked through to see the image and also magnifies the image.
What are the advantages of a light microscope?
It is cheap to buy and operate
It is small and portable
Specimens can be living or dead
What is the resolution of a light microscope
Up to 0.2um
