B Lactamse inhibitors Flashcards
What is B - lactamse inhibitors ?
Some agents can bind to B- lactamase enzyme and inhibit its activity
Affect ?
Preventing degredation of B- lactam antibiotics which consequently leads to prolongation of T 1/2 and obtaining better / therapentic effects . B- lactamase inhibitors are given in combiation with B-lactam administered
Best example
Clavulanic acid
Clavulanic acid ?
Is produced by streptomyces clavuligerus , has poor antimicrobial effect so is not used separately as an antibiotic . is used in combination with B- lactams as a ( succide ) inhibitor
Pharmacokinetics ?
Well absorbed orally , can be administered parentrally .Metabolism is hepatic , excretion is urinary
Therapentic use ?
Used in combination with Amoxicillin ( Augmentin) for oral administration .
They leads to potentiation of the therapeutic effect of Amoxicillin.
Dose ?
1 tablet (300 mg Amoxicillin+ 75mg clavulanic acid ) every 8 hours
