B-15 Derived Stimulus Relations Flashcards

1
Q

Stimulus Equivalence

A

When a class of stimuli evoke the same responses or more generally have the same effects on behavior.

Derived Relation

Stimuli that evoke the response “dog” include

  1. word dog
  2. picture of dog
  3. sight of dog
  4. sound of dog barking

Q

Reflexivity

A

With no further training the learner will select a stimulus that matches itself

Ex: A=A, Llama=Llama

Symmetry

A

“A form of stimulus equivalence called symmetry occurs when after learning that A = B, the learner demonstrates that B = A without direct training on that relationship.”

Q

Transitivity

A

A form of stimulus equivalence called transitivity occurs when after learning that A = B and B = C, the learner demonstrates that A = C that emerges without direct training on that relationship.

As a product of learning two other stimulus relations (A=B and B=C), the learner derives the third (A=C).

Q

Relational Frame Theory (RFT)

A

Language builds on how we create links and associations between terms, ideas, things, labels etc.

These frames and categories are how we classify words and help in the building blocks of analogies, metaphors etc

We classify things cognitively by how they are alike and different
