Axilla Flashcards
Describe the bones that form the borders at the apex of the axilla;
Posterior wall is formed by the superior border of the scapular. The first rib forms the medial aspect. The clavicle forms the anterior border.
Describe the vessels entering/exiting the axilla at the level of the apex on the medial side;
The first rib has the mid scalene and the ant. scalene. The brachial plexus enters the apex between the mid and ant scalene with the axillary art. The axillary vein exits anteriorly to the ant. scalene.
Describe the boundaries of the axilla on a transverse section
Ant. border; Pec minor, some major, sub clavius Medial border; Serratus anterior Post. border; Sub-scapularis, supraspinatus, teres major, lat dorsi. Lat. border; Humerus Inferior wall; Axillary fascia
What is the origin of the axillary art?
Subclavian artery
Describe the structures the axillary / brachial artery pass through in the axilla;
Passes over the first rib into the axilla Then under the superior border of pec minor before passing out the inferior border of pec minor. It then passes into the brachium behind teres major.
