AV 10: Conflicts Flashcards
PDTA (R)(E)
Position Direction Type Altitude (Runway) (Estimate)
FSS Responsibilities
- Maintain situational awareness regarding aerodrome operations
- Obtain information from pilot regarding aerodrome operations
- Provide advisory and traffic information
- Evaluate pilot intentions
- Monitor Traffic
- Assist pilot in establishing visual contact
- Request position report, if required
- Provide traffic updates, if required
Traffic update
Any item of traffic information issued by ATS to pilots after the initial advisory or previous update.
Traffic updates are used to: (three items)
- assist AC in establishing visual contact
- Advise AC of new traffic that may impact their intentions
- advise AC of other traffic information the aircraft requires that will assist in the safe and efficient flow of traffic.
At which stages of flight is traffic NOT to be provided?
- on short final
- on the take off roll
- during climb after take off
Conflict
A situation where one aircraft comes in such proximity to another AC that one may require immediate alteration to its flight path to avoid creating a risk of collision.
Right of way when two AC are converging at approx. the same altitude
The AC that has the other on its right shall give way.
What is the pecking order for right of way for all aircraft?
Power-driven, heavier than air AC shall give way to airships, who shall give way to gliders, who shall give way to balloons.
Right of way when two balloons are converging at different heights
The balloon at the higher altitude shall give way.
Right of way when two AC are approaching head on
Both AC shall alter their heading to the right.
Right of way when one AC is overtaking another
The AC being overtaken has the right of way and the overtaking aircraft must alter its heading to the right to avoid conflict.
Right of way when two AC are approaching an aerodrome for landing
The AC at the lower altitude has the right of way.
