Autonomic Nervous System II 🧠 Flashcards
Sympathetic Division
Part of the autonomic nervous system that prepares the body for stress or danger situations (‘fight or flight’).
Neuroscience
The study of the nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord, and how they interact with the body.
Baroreceptors
Sensory receptors that detect changes in blood pressure and help regulate it through the baroreflex.
Anatomy
The study of the structure of living organisms, including human anatomy which involves the body’s organs and systems.
Parasympathetic Division
Part of the autonomic nervous system that conserves energy and promotes maintenance activities (‘rest and digest’).
Autonomic Nervous System
Controls involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate.
Dual Innervation
Sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves can have opposing effects on the same organ to maintain homeostasis.
Pharmacology
The study of drugs and their effects on the body, including mechanisms of action, side effects, and interactions.
