What are some features of autoimmune hepatitis?

A
  • Amenorrhoea (common)May present with signs of chronic liver disease
  • Acute hepatitis: fever, jaundice etc (only 25% present in this way)

  • ANA

Liver biopsy: inflammation extending beyond limiting plate ‘piecemeal necrosis’, bridging necrosis

Describe the 3 different types of autoimmune hepatitis.

A

Type 1 - ANA +/- SMA will be present. Affects child and adults.

Type 2 - LKM1 antibodies -affects children only

Type 3 - Soluble liver kidney antigen. Affects middle aged adults.
