Mechanism of Action

A

CV: Increased heart rate, Increased conduction velocity, increased force of contraction, increased cardiac output
RESP: Decreased mucus production, increased bronchodilation
GI: Decreased GI secretion and motility
GU: Decreased urinary bladder tone
Misc: Mydriasis, decreased sweat production

Indications and Field Use

A
Symptomatic Bradycardia (sinus, junctional, and AV blocks causing significant hypotension, ventricular ectopy, cheat pain, ALOC)
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor poisoning

Adverse Reactions

A

Major: Tachydysrhythmias, flushing, ventricular irritablility, exacerbation/initiation of angina
Minor: Dry mouth,/mucous membranes, loss of taste, nausea, vomiting, urinary retention, weakness, hyperthermia

Adult Dosage

A

Symptomatic Bradycardia: IV-0.5mg every 5 min. Do NOT exceed 3mg or 0.04mg/kg
Organophosphate or Carbamate Poisoning: IV-1-5mg, doses should be doubled every 5 min. IM-administer 2mg, 2 additional doses repeated in 10 min not to exceed 6mg.
