Mechanism of Action
In small doses aspirin blocks thromboxane A2
Decreased platelet aggregation
Indications and Field Use
Chest pain or other s/s suggestive of acute myocardial infarction
ECG changes suggestive of acute myocardial infarction
Unstable Angina
Pain, discomfort, fever in adult pt only
Contraindications
Bleeding ulcer, hemorrhagic states, hemophilia
Known hypersensitivity to salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories that has led to hypotension and/or bronchospasm
Children and adolescents
Adverse Reactions
Use with caution in patients with hx of asthma. Anaphylactic reactions in sensitive pt’s have occured
Adult Dosage
Cardiac: 160mg-325mg (2-4 pediatric chewable tabs), chew and swallowed
Pain/discomfort/fever: 325mg PO, chewed and swallowed
Onset of Action, Peak Effects, Duration of Action, Dosage Forms/Packaging
20-30min:2 Hours:4-6 Hours: 81mg-325mg tablet individually packaged
